Plant Simulation
Production system simulation is a methodology, born from the synergy between experiences gained on the field and in the research activities, to analyze and assess manufacturing production system's performances (existing, to develop, commercial proposal) by means of a discreet event simulation model. Starting from customer's objectives definition, this methodology, joined with the usage of advanced analysis tools, allows to analyze production scenarios in order to achieve such objectives. This methodology is especially applicable:
- during the production system design phase, either on shop floor level or on single production lines, to anticipate possible critical issues and thus focusing investments
- during existing process reconfiguration phase, to understand corrective actions to respond appropriately to market or business strategies changes
This methodology indeed allows to
- Assess the overall performances of a system and simulate "what if..." scenarios
- Evaluate alternative strategies to improve and optimize production plants efficiency
- Achieve production objectives
- Provide production plants sales support
The main benefits are:
- a systemic view of a production system, directly on own PC screen, as common base for further discussion
- a clear comprehension of risks and benefits related to changes on a production system, thanks to the quantitative, and not only qualitative, answers given by the simulation
- the exploitation of our knowledge and skills in identifying critical situations and proposing improving solutions meant to reduce time and costs
Moreover, in the end, a customer has at his/her disposal a digital model able not only to represent the dynamic behaviour of own production system, but also:
- it can to be integrated with company IT systems, especially with the production planning and scheduling oriented tools
- it can provide a customized and hierarchical key performance indicators' set (like hourly/daily throughput, lead time, WIP or resources' saturation) presented also in a graphical way
- it can prepare a customizable report with the simulation results
This model can be used day-by-day by production or planning managers to improve production system's daily performances because the model mimics the real operating conditions like machine stops, wastes, stochastic processing times, etc. Moreover it can be used to improve the resources utilization and the material flow management with minimum or null investments because it allows to evaluate the internal dynamics peculiarities of every system providing numeric responses to your own issues
